Installation of HP LaserJet 1020 printer on Ubuntu 10.04 with no I/O devices

Install cups:

 sudo apt-get install cups

Then download driver (HPLIP) from the official HPLIP website http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/index.html
After the download of the file hplip-x.x.x.run and then run

sh hplip-x.x.x.run

For more help read the instructions for successful installation at http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install/install/index.html

Hp-setup will fail because there is no monitor to output the set up, so start it without GUI with the following command:

hp-setup -i

After the setup is complete, config file must be edited so we can access the web page of cups. Go to the cups config file and edit it (I will use nano text editor):

nano /etc/cups/cupsd.conf

Inside fill the following text:

# Allow remote access
Port 631

<Location /admin>
# Allow remote administration...
Order allow,deny
Allow all
</Location>
<Location /admin/conf>
AuthType Default
Require user @SYSTEM
# Allow remote access to the configuration files...
Order allow,deny
Allow all
</Location>

After this is completed go to 192.168.1.00:631 (ip address of the server) and set up the printer.
